How Should a Believer Pray?

A Biblical Prayer Guide That Brings Answers, Deliverance, and Spiritual Growth by Apostle Ankur Narula

Prayer is not a religious formality. Prayer is the lifeline of a believer. It is through prayer that lives are transformed, destinies are aligned, and spiritual battles are won.

If you listen carefully, believe wholeheartedly, and practice prayer according to the Word of God, your life will not remain the same. Answers will come. Your life will be released. There will be deliverance from Satan. You will be elevated in every area—just as I have personally experienced in my Christian life.
This teaching is not based on emotion or theory, but on experience and the Word of God.

Why Prayer Is Essential for Every Believer

The Bible clearly says:
“Ask, and it will be given to you.” (Matthew 7:7)

Yes, God knows what we need before we ask. But He releases answers when we ask, because He is faithful to His Word. Prayer activates God’s promises in our lives.

Many believers know that prayer brings deliverance—but very few actually pray consistently.
Why?
Because whenever a believer sits down to pray:

  • Negative thoughts suddenly appear

  • Doubt and unbelief flood the mind

  • Distractions increase

  • Sinful thoughts arise

But when you sit to watch TV or scroll on your phone, these attacks don’t happen.

This is not a coincidence.
Satan knows that salvation, breakthrough, and elevation are released through prayer. Prayer is the only medium through which a believer comes into deep union with God, receives divine guidance, and takes decisions that the human mind alone cannot take.

How Should a Believer Pray According to the Bible?

1. Morning Prayer: Personal Prayer Time
Every believer should begin the day with personal prayer.
This prayer should cover:

  • Your own life

  • Your family

  • Your work or business

  • Your ministry or calling

If possible, pray for 1 to 1½ hours in the morning.
If time is limited, pray at least 45 minutes.
During this time:

  • Thank God

  • Worship Him

  • Speak to Him freely

God is not a harsh god waiting to punish mistakes. He is a loving Father. Just as a mother understands her child’s needs even when the child cannot speak properly, your Heavenly Father understands your heart.

2. Daily Bible Reading Is Non-Negotiable

After prayer, spend 30 minutes reading the Word of God.

  • The Word builds faith.

  • The Word reveals authority.

  • The Word shows what God has already promised.

God desires believers who know what is written—not weak, distracted, or ignorant believers.

3. Pray Using Scripture (This Is Where Results Come)

This is the most important part of prayer—and the most neglected.
After prayer and Bible reading, spend 15–30 minutes praying with the Word of God.

How to Pray With Scripture?
-
Write down your prayer points

  • Healing

  • Children

  • Marriage

  • Finances

  • Deliverance

  • Direction

Find Bible verses related to each point
Examples:

  • Healing → Psalm 103, Proverbs 3

  • Children → Psalm 112:2

  • Deliverance → Psalm 34:19

Pray like this:
“Lord, it is written in Your Word.
You promised this—not me.
Now fulfill this Word in my life.”

This is not pride. This is biblical faith.
If you do not present your case through Scripture, you will struggle. But when you fight using the Word, victory is guaranteed.

When the Problem Is Serious: Increase Prayer

If you are facing a serious issue—such as sickness, confusion, spiritual attack, or major life decisions—then prayer must increase.

  • Pray 1½ hours in the evening

  • Pray 1½ hours again at night

  • Pray the same Scriptures repeatedly

Jesus Christ Himself prayed all night before choosing His disciples (Luke 6:12). Though He was God, He prayed because the decision would shape the future of the Church.

Important decisions always require intense prayer:

  • Children’s education

  • Marriage decisions

  • Ministry direction

  • Business and career choices

Prayer prevents wrong decisions and failure.

For Working Professionals

Not every believer can follow the 1 + 1 + 1 pattern (morning, evening, night), especially those who work full-time.

God understands this.

For working professionals, this pattern is powerful and acceptable:

  • Give 1½ hours to God in the morning

  • Give 1½ hours to God at night

  • Start your day with prayer.

  • End your day with prayer.

When your day begins with God and ends with God, His presence covers everything in between.

The Power of Writing Prayer Points in Your Bible

Here is a life-changing spiritual discipline:

  • Take a pencil (not a pen)

  • Write your prayer points at the back of your Bible

  • Pray over them daily using Scripture

As God answers: Erase the completed prayer point and write a testimony with a pen:
“God fulfilled this prayer on this date.”

After a year, you will notice:

  • Fewer unanswered prayers

  • More testimonies

Your Bible will become a record of God’s faithfulness.

Final Encouragement:

  • Prayer Changes Everything

  • Prayer is not begging.

  • Prayer is standing firmly on God’s Word.

If you commit yourself to this prayer life—even for a few months—you will see:

  • Answers coming

  • Faith increasing

  • Spiritual growth

  • Clear direction

  • Deliverance and peace

Your life will not remain the same.
Hallelujah. Praise the Lord!
May God bless you abundantly.
